  • Introduction to Front Office AMA 100

    To provide the student with the basic functions and understanding of front office operations in the medical office.  Learning the basics of medical assisting, daily functions including correspondence and mail, dictation and transcription, the computer, filing methods, record keeping, computer operations and word processing.

    Billing and collectionprocedures will be overviewed.  Health Insurance including managed care will be discussed.  Students will learn basic medical coding including ICD-9 and CPT codes.  Patient billing, collections and accounting in the medical office will be taught.

    Student will cover more in-depth operations of a business such as banking services and procedures, professional fees and credit arrangements, managing practice finances, assisting with research management of responsibilites, and utilizing computer software.  Programs such as Excel and Medisoft will be introduced

  • AMA 105 Description:

    Student will cover medical terms and abbreviations that are necessary to perform in all aspects of the medical field including medical billing and coding.

  • Principles of Asepsis, Preparing the Exam and Treatment Area and an overview of the medical environment.  Student will acquire the knowledge required for success in the Special Senses area.  Students will be provided with an overview of medical terms and abbreviations related to word analysis.

  • CMA 101 Description:

    Students will be provided with an overview of anatomy and physiology.  Sunjects covered will include body planes and cavities, directional terms, abdominal regions and an introduction to medical terminology.  Wood roots, combining forms, suffixes prefixes will be introduced and examined.  Flash cards are utelized to allow the student to identify the different parts of medical terms.  Protocols for providing patient care will be discussed.  The following systems will be examined: musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, lymphatic, urinary, male and female reproductive.

  • Assisting with routine physical examinations, highly specialized exams, basic specialty practice, patient charting, rooming patients, blood pressure, and taking vital signs. Students will have instruction and an overview in the reproductive system. Students will be provided with an overview of medical terms and abbreviations basic word structure.

  • The student will be exploring minor surgery procedure, medical asepsis, and instruction in sterile field set-ups, instrument and their uses. There will be an overview of the organization of the body and muscular-skeletal systems. Dosage calculation and administration of medication, pharmaceutical terms, and the use of a PDR. Students will be provided with an overview of terms and abbreviations related to Anatomy and Physiology

    The student will prepare to enter the job market for an entry level position.  Job search, interview techniques, application completion and resume writing will be discussed and demonstrated.  Each student will create and format their resume, complete and application. mock interview.

  • Course Description:

    This 160 hours on-the-job training experience is combined effort between the school and a pre approved HealthStaff facility.                                                                     



    Students will be able to apply the knowledge acquired in the classroom to real life situations.

  • Circulatory system will be reviewed.  Complete demonstration of patient, and procedural preparation, and technique.  On completion of the course, the student will be able to exhibit proper electrode placement and use of equipment.  EKG mounting, and basic interpretation.  Students will be provided with an overview of medical terminology and abbreviations related to Anatomy and Physiology.

    Objective:  Introduction to Laboratory Procedures

    Course Description:

    OSHA Regulations includes: *Exposure control plan for Bloodborne Pathogen exposure * infection control, Biohazards

    Universal Precautions:  * Infection control and safety requirements * Personal Protective Equipment

    Diagnostic Tests:  * Low complexity testing in Hematocrits *Hemoglobin *RBC/WBC counts * Stains * Blood smears * Glucose Test  *Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate *Differentials

    Blood Collection Method: *Venipuncture includes instruction in evacuated blood draws, syringe and butterfly.  Student learns the use of various color top tubes, the order of draw and requisition forms.  * Capillary/Dermal Puncture instruction in proper asepsis technique and method of specimen collection and processing.

    Terminology & Abbreviations: * Students will be provided an overview of medical terms and abbreviations related to Anatomy and Physiology.

  • Microbiology and CLIA regulations will be discussed and reviewed.  The course introduces students to the constituents of urine specimen collection.  The students will be able to perform urinalysis procedures.  Student will learn the Anatomy and Physiology of the digestive and endocrine systems.  Students will be provided with an overview of terms and abbreviations related to Anatomy and Physiology.
